Serene but not so Scrumptious Spiti Valley - A solo traveler's guide to hidden gems of Spiti
Disclaimer: This trip was in the month of May third week. All viewpoints are based on that. I will be covering some interesting and unpopular spots to visit in the entire Spiti valley circuit tour. The blog in no way intends to promote any places or things.
Julley!
Our Spiti valley trip was planned to be an entire circuit tour with the journey beginning from Sangla, Chitkul & ending at Chandratal Lake with a campstay.
We all must have heard of Chitkul, the last village of Himachal, while planning our tour to Spiti. However, when we visited Spiti, we decided to plan our stay at homestays constructed near the banks of Baspa River in Chitkul.
The most lovely part of these homestays was the weather during evening and night.
You can constantly hear the sounds of waves and feel the fresh breeze of mountains. (Although it gets really chilled at times :P). We decided to setup a bonfire during the night.
As travellers we often tend to find that city escape. Here, near the Baspa River at night, you can also see the stars above the sky making it altogether a serene view (The images attached are unfiltered and depict actual views).
These homestays had the much-needed facilities at Chitkul : Heaters in the room, Hot water facility.
While visiting these homestays one must not expect any luxury or great hygiene but basic requirements.
After Chitkul, we decided to move to Kalpa, Tabo village. On the route, we came across Khab bridge.
This truss bridge was constructed by local army regiment for transporting their armored vehicles and tanks. On the way, we also came across the army canteen where one must definitely try tasty samosas and chai.
While travelling from Chicham village to Key (famous for Key Monastery in Spiti valley), we took a halt at a wonderful cafe themed restaurant in Kibber.
It is a wonderful place to hop for foodies, especially in the mountain.
During the entire trip, I realised that Spiti lacked food options and delicacies. Even higher altitude regions in North India (like Leh, J&K), have some really interesting food joints at popular places, which Spiti Valley doesn't.
Hence, when the tour guide took us to TashiZom Restaurant in Kibber, we were relieved.
This restaurant is a worth for money visit as it also has verandah seating and the food was delicious.
